Grandma F’s Rice Krispie Bars

The original recipe called for 6 oz pkg of chocolate chips. (It is easier for me to resist the Cocoa when snacking, so I make that substitution!) You can also add a handful of marshmallows with the peanut butter (keeps the bars softer and stretches the amount). Add more cereal as needed. Love from Grandma Fuhrwerk

Ingredients

  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 or 3 T. cocoa
  • 1 C Karo syrup (light or dark)
  • 1 C peanut butter (smooth or chunky, your choice)
  • 6 C Rice Krispy cereal (can use the generic brand)

 

Directions

Cook first 3 ingredients over medium heat just until boils (watch closely, stir often) Turn off heat.

Stir in peanut butter.

When peanut butter melts, stir in Rice Krispy cereal.

Pour into buttered 9 x 11 pan,  smooth with back of buttered large spoon. 

Cut while still warm.
