This is a family favorite of ours. I still make sure that I always have them on hand for the holidays. Easily frozen – but that doesn’t stop them from being eaten – they are good frozen too!
A friend went shopping at Neiman-Marcus in November 1987 and ate lunch. For dessert she had a cookie. She thought it was the most wonderful cookie she had ever tasted, and asked if the recipe was available. She was told that it was but there was a charge of “two-fifty”. She said that was fine, and she got the recipe and told them just to charge her account. When she got her bill in December, there was a charge of $250.00 on it. She called Neiman-Marcus and told them there must be a mistake, that the charge should be $2.50. She was told there was no mistake... that the $250.00 charge was correct! She has vowed to get them back, and wants to get this recipe out to everyone she possible can. She wants everyone who gets a copy to send or give it to everyone they know. Besides, the cookie is one of the most delicious ever, so here it is.
This recipe was one I found when you girls were young and was a nutritious snack. We make it a lot - and I ate a lot of them too! I always made them with the Karo corn syrup.
The original recipe called for 6 oz pkg of chocolate chips. (It is easier for me to resist the Cocoa when snacking, so I make that substitution!) You can also add a handful of marshmallows with the peanut butter (keeps the bars softer and stretches the amount). Add more cereal as needed. Love from Grandma Fuhrwerk
