Neiman-Marcus $250 Cookie Recipe

A great cookie recipe,

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. butter (real)
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 4 c. flour
  • 5 cups blended oatmeal (blend in the blender, a small amount at a time)
  • 1 t. salt
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 2 t. baking soda
  • 24 oz. Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 - 8 oz Hershey’s chocolate bar, grated
  • 3 cups chopped nuts

Directions

Cream butter and sugars.

Add eggs and vanilla.

Mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and baking soda.

Add chocolate chips, grated chocolate and nuts.

Roll into one-inch balls and place 2 inches  apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 6 minutes at 375 degrees.

Makes 112 cookies and recipe can be halved. I also form dough balls and freeze them for baking later.

The story goes:

A friend went shopping at Neiman-Marcus in November 1987 and ate lunch. For dessert she had a cookie. She thought it was the most wonderful cookie she had ever tasted, and asked if the recipe was available. She was told that it was but there was a charge of “two-fifty”. She said that was fine, and she got the recipe and told them just to charge her account. When she got her bill in December, there was a charge of $250.00 on it. She called Neiman-Marcus and told them there must be a mistake, that the charge should be $2.50. She was told there was no mistake... that the $250.00 charge was correct! She has vowed to get them back, and wants to get this recipe out to everyone she possible can. She wants everyone who gets a copy to send or give it to everyone they know. Besides, the cookie is one of the most delicious ever, so here it is.

This is a great cookie recipe and was fun hearing the story - whether it was true or not!!
