Chicken Cordon Bleu

I found this recipe on a Heinz 57 bottle many years ago and it’s been a family favorite ever since!

Ingredients

  • 6 boneless chicken breasts
  • 6 thin slices baked ham ( I use deli chipped ham)
  • 6 oz. Swiss cheese (cut into sticks or slices)
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 3 T. butter
  • 1 can (3-4 oz.) mushrooms (or fresh)
  • ½ c. water
  • 1/3 c. dry white wine
  • 1/4 c. Heinz 57 sauce

Directions

  1. Pound each breasts to uniform size.
  2. Lay slice of ham onto each breast
  3. Add slice of cheese on top of ham
  4. Roll up and secure with a toothpick.
  5. Coat each chicken roll in flour.
  6. Melt butter in skillet.
  7. Brown chicken rolls in butter.
  8. Remove from pan and put in a greased casserole dish.
  9. Add flour, mushrooms, water, wine, and Heinz 57 sauce to the pan and bring to a boil scraping the bottom of the pan.
  10. Pour over chicken rolls.
  11. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

This can be made a day in advance and kept refrigerated until ready to bake.  You may want to thicken sauce after baking with cornstarch.
